What are Coast Fuel Cards?
Coast Fuel Cards are a digital fuel payment solution designed for businesses with fleets. Instead of using traditional plastic fuel cards tied to one brand of gas station, Coast works across major fuel stations and service locations nationwide.
With Coast Fuel Cards, businesses can:
Pay for fuel and fleet expenses directly from the Coast app or physical card.
Set spending controls (e.g., fuel-only, dollar limits, time-of-day restrictions).
Track purchases in real time, helping with accurate reporting and expense management.
Integrate with fleet management software, so fuel usage links back to vehicles, drivers, and inspections.
Reduce fraud and misuse by requiring driver IDs, vehicle info, or other rules before purchases.
Why is it useful?
Flexibility – Drivers can fuel up at almost any major gas station, not just one network.
Transparency – Managers see who’s spending what, where, and when.
Control – You can set rules per driver or per vehicle to match your company’s policies.
Efficiency – Reports and integration reduce the need for manual tracking or reimbursements.
How to set up the integration
Log in as an administrator on Whip Around and navigate to Profile -> API Management.
Click on "Create an integration API key"Select "Coast" on the drop down
Then press the "Create" button
This will generate an API key which you can then Copy and Paste into COAST.
Log in to your Coast portal and open the Integrations section.Find the Whip Around option and click Install. You may be asked to re-enter your Coast username and password for verification. Once the integration is installed, go to the Manage Integration page. Enter your Whip Around API key and Whip Around Account Token to complete the connection.
The integration syncs assets (vehicles), drivers, fuel vendors, and detailed fuel transaction data between Coast and Whip Around, ensuring all Coast card fuel purchases are automatically tracked and matched to the correct vehicle and vendor in Whip Around
NOTE:
At times, fuel merchants may provide incomplete or incorrect purchase details. For example, the gallons purchased or price per gallon could be missing, listed as zero, or not add up correctly to the total charge. When this happens, Coast fills in the gaps by estimating the values using the average fuel prices for that state on the date of the transaction.
