Technician Time Tracking Overview

An overview of how labor time tracking works on work orders in Whip Around.

Time Tracking lets your mechanics/technician start and stop a timer directly on a work order — on web and on the mobile app — so you capture exactly how long each job takes. That time automatically converts to a labor cost and flows into the work order's cost summary.

What you can do:

  • Clock in and out of a work order, or a specific line item / service task

  • See every active timer in real time on the Labor In Progress dashboard widget

  • Add or edit time entries manually, with a full audit trail

  • Hide hourly rates and costs from mechanics while still calculating cost

  • Run five labor reports, with CSV export and scheduled email delivery

Track labor sits in the Items section header on the work order detail page

While a timer runs, a green Clocked in bar stays at the top of the app with a Stop labor button

Access: Time Tracking is part of the Shop Ops add-on, which requires a Pro subscription as a base. If you don’t see Track labor on your work orders, talk to your Customer Success Manager about adding Shop Ops.
