1. Add a single asset using the VIN decoder

Log into the Whip Around dashboard. Navigate to the Assets module using the menu bar on the left side menu. Select the +Asset button and choose Single asset.

Add the VIN and select Decode VIN. This will automatically pull through the make, model, year, tire size, color, and asset subtype information from DataOne into Whip Around for that asset.

If you don't have a VIN, select Don't have a VIN? to create a new asset details page. Fill in the details manually.

We recommend adding a photo of the asset to make it easy to identify at a glance throughout the platform.

Assets cannot be saved until you've added a form to the profile. Toggle Select all forms to automatically include all the forms you've created for your assets or select the checkbox of the form or forms you'd like to make available to the asset.

Forms are fully customizable, and it's common to have forms used for DVIR pre- or post-inspections. Adding a form to an asset ensures your team member (and drivers) operating the asset can select the form for that particular asset on their mobile app.

Once you're done adding all the asset information, select the Save button at the bottom of the page.

You can use the search function to find the asset profile again on the asset list page.

2. Upload multiple assets using the bulk uploader

Bulk upload assets to quickly add them to your Whip Around account or overwrite asset details currently in the platform. If you need to bulk update some of your assets, you only need to include those select assets on the asset document, not your entire fleet.

Click the +Asset button and choose the Bulk asset import option in the drop-down menu.

Download the CSV. Template provided and open with a spreadsheet software program (Microsoft Excel, Google sheets, Apple Numbers, etc.)

Take a moment to ensure the data of your assets are organized with the same headings and information supplied in the template. Save your spreadsheet with all the assets you want to import as a CSV. file

Choose the Select a file image button in Whip Around.

Choose the CSV. file with all your assets included and select Open.

Whip Around will automatically import all the entries from your spreadsheet into the platform. Scroll to the right of each asset entry to edit or add information to the columns.

Choose a default team for your assets by selecting an option in the drop-down menu.

Once you're done checking the information is correct, select Import.

If you import new assets into the system, an asset profile will be created for each asset. If you used the bulk uploader to amend or add data to multiple asset profiles, the changed asset information will reflect on the dashboard and mobile app.

Use the search function or sort and scroll through the list of assets to quickly bring up the asset profile you want to work with.

3. Import assets from an integration partner of Whip Around

Fleet Managers leverage partner solutions integrated with Whip Around to improve fleet operations and have all their data in one place. This way, it's easier to make data-driven decisions from the information surfaced within Whip Around and the dashboard.

You need to have an integration set up with Whip Around to import assets from one of Whip Around's partner solutions. A partner solution could be a telematics company like GeoTab, Samsara, Motive or Verizon Connect.

A company can have more than one partner solution integrated with Whip Around. However, an asset can only have one integration assigned at a time.

You'll see on the page below that this company has both a Motive (formally keeptruckin') and GeoTab integration with Whip Around.

To import assets from an integration partner, select the +Asset button on the Asset list page to reveal the drop-down menu, and select Import from [Geotab].

A pop-up modal will tell you the number of assets Whip Around can import through the integration. Select OK to import the assets from the integration partner into Whip Around.
